U.S. Census data on U.S. businesses owned by women show the following:

• Receipts for women-owned businesses in 2007: $1.2 trillion;

• Number of women-owned businesses with receipts of $1 million or more:
141,893;
 
• Number of women-owned businesses in 2007: 7.8 million;

• Percent of all nonfarm businesses owned by women: 29;

• Number of women-owned businesses that were employer firms: 910,761;

• Number of businesses in which women were equal owners with men: 4.6 million;

• Percent of women-owned businesses that were home-based in 2007: 58.2;

• Number of people employed by women-owned businesses in 2007: 7.6 million;

• Number of women-owned businesses with 100 or more employees: 7,644;

• Gross receipts these businesses generated: $357.9 billion;

• Percent of all businesses operating in the health care and social assistance owned by women: 52 percent;

• Percent of women-owned business revenue from wholesale and retail trade: 36;

• Top three states for the number of women-owned businesses in 2007: California (1 million), Texas (610,162), New York (594,421).
