Indie filmmaker Spike Lee, director of numerous celebrated films set in pre-gentrified Brooklyn such as Do the Right Thingand the much-acclaimed She’s Gotta Have It, is using the crowd-funding website, Kickstarter, to fund his latest film.
It’s been nearly two decades since a Black actress was nominated in the
best actress in a drama Emmy award category. And in the 65-year history
of the Emmy Awards, no Black actress has ever won in that category. Well, 2013 has flipped that script. Last week, Scandal’s Kerry Washington was nominated for Outstanding Lead
Actress in a Drama Series for her role as the super-driven,
super-sensuous, no-nonsense PR crisis “fixer” Olivia Pope.
Last week, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that "we disproportionately stop whites too much and minorities too
little," with regard to the
NYPD’s record on stop and frisk. If Mayor Bloomberg the “mathematician” needs proof of his poor
arithmetic, it’s readily available in Wednesday’s NY Daily News and
its interactive, thoroughgoing assessment. In short, the paper said,
“The mayoral math on stop-and-frisk doesn’t add up.”
