The New York Times announced today that Dean Baquet was promoted to executive editor. He is the first African American person to hold this title in the Times' 162-year history. Before this, Baquet served as the publication's managing editor.
On the beauty front, Black women have been making strides. Last month it
was reported that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o snagged a coveted Lancome
makeup contract and model Jourdan Dunn was named the new face of
Earlier this year, sibling entrepreneurs John and Cris Carter --owners
of Carter Brothers, LLC., in Atlanta, completed the acquisition of an
electrical company that made the brothers the minority owners of one of
the largest electrical services companies in the region.
In 2003, Ace Champion was struggling to make a name for himself as a
chef in Louisiana. So he moved to Wisconsin, where he figured he might
stand out for his Creole cooking. He did, and then some. Today, the 37-year old is a chef and a cooking instructor who has an unorthodox approach to both where and how he teaches.
