This Brazilian Tour will explore the African heritage in Brazil beginning in Rio de Janeiro then ending in Salvador. Visits planned and opportunities abound to meet with people in different communities to experience the indigenous culture. Salvador, capital of Bahia was the biggest Brazilian port for entering African slaves for more than a century making African culture the prevailing influence. To this day, Salvador is known as the largest African city outside Africa. The diversity of cultures of those who populated Salvador from its early days—namely the Portuguese, the Africans and the indigenous Indians—can be seen in everyday life. Capoeira, Candomblé, Maculelê, African Dance, Axe Music and Carnival are some examples. Rio de Janeiro also known as the “Marvelous City” is a mosaic of enchantments. The city offers attractions that have rendered it international fame. But Rio, as the Cariocas call it, is not just beautiful; it is also cultural and historic.
