Over Labor Day weekend, urban youth of the Compton and Oakland
communities of California will have the opportunity to flex their tech
muscles at the “We Are Code” two-day hackathon event designed to promote
awareness and innovation.
Last week, Bill Gates recommended that over the summer everyone should read the book How To Lie With Statistics. Since that's a book that I've also repeatedly recommended, I thought I give an example of how to use the book effectively.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the percentage of Americans who are overweight is…are you ready for this… a staggering 69%. Let me repeat that, 69%. As in over two-thirds. As in nearly seven out of 10 people.
Even though headlines regularly point out the security threat
landscape in the digital world with more audacious data breaches,
businesses have grown complacent. Perhaps it is information overload. The recent breach at the IRS is one great example. In light of
this and other events, it really makes you question, what can a small
business with limited resources really do when even the IRS can’t manage
to stop an attack?
