Helen C. Shelton, M.S., senior partner at leading global PR agency Finn
Partners, will receive the 2016 Circle Award from ColorComm, the
nation's premier membership organization for women of color in
communications. Shelton and six other women are being recognized for
their contributions to the communications industry. Here, we speak with Shelton about her award-winning work.
As long as she can remember, Alicia Goodwin was fascinated with creating. She loved creating things, loved designing things and loved fashion. Narrowing down her creative bent, she focused in on jewelry and created her own unique jewelry while also consulting for design houses in New York City. Goodwin launched Lingua Nigra in 2003 in Brooklyn, NY. She gave the inside account to TNJ.com.
Andrea Polk was very serious about her entrepreneurial dreams. So
serious she routinely socked away money from her corporate day job to
fund her purpose. Her vision — a skin care business targeting men. Her first venture
was hit and miss, but eventually she struck success with the launch of
Solo Noir, an organic grooming line for men of color. Here, Polk talks to TNJ.com about going Solo.
