Rahshib A. Thomas’s career achievements are threefold: he is a certified professional in human resources, owns his own professional development consulting firm, and he is a philanthropist, serving as the Eastern region vice president for National Urban League Young Professionals. In his human resources hat, Thomas joined Archstone Apartments in 2008 to manage and direct HR functions for the real estate company’s luxury residential rental properties in the Northeast. By then, he had spent several years managing human resources, including labor relations, for well-known hotels in New Orleans and New York.

 

Thomas’s firm, RT Consulting, provides career coaching to individuals, and fundraising and branding consultation to organizations. “I consider myself a belief-based professional developer, infusing “new thought” ideas and language into professional coaching,” he says.

 

Of Louisiana Creole heritage, Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and certification as a professional in human  resources (PHR) through the Human Resources Certification Institute. Perhaps his most influential role is the one he has with the National Urban League. Starting as a volunteer in 2000, he served three consecutive terms as community service chair for the Young Professionals division of the league’s New York chapter.

 

In 2009, he was elected president of the New York Young Professionals and served on the board of directors of the New York Urban League. He managed more than 2,000 volunteers and amassed more than $400,000 in fundraising and volunteer labor support for the organization, helping his the chapter to win two National Chapter of Excellence Awards and one Regional Chapter of Excellence Award.

 

Elected the 2011–2013 Eastern region vice president of the league’s national Young Professionals group, Thomas is honored that the parent organization’s senior executives view his leadership as “something of value for the organization, and possibly more for my community and the world.”
