John R. Kirksey, a member of the Executive Leadership Council, will join AXA Financial as chief diversity officer. Beginning in September, Kirksey will assume the additional title of senior vice president. As chief diversity officer, Kirksey assumes responsibility for developing and leading an integrated diversity strategy across AXA. Prior to AXA Financial, he served as president of The Kirksey Group, an advisory and consulting service to Fortune 500 corporations on diversity, organizational effectiveness and workforce change management. Kirksey also spent four years as a partner at PriceWaterhouseCoopers. | |

Janet Rolle became vice president and general manager of AOL BlackVoices. She will be responsible for developing the AOL BlackVoices service across all AOL platforms and products. In addition, she will lead the day-to-day programming activities and set the editorial tone and direction for the African-American category, reporting to Bill Watson, senior vice president and general manager of AOL programming. Prior to this appointment, Rolle was vice president, Programming Enterprises & Business Development, for VH1 and CMT at MTV Networks, developing business opportunities and strategic marketing partnerships for all VH1 and CMT programming, franchises and brands. | |

Kenneth R. Theobalds was named vice president of governmental affairs for Entergy Corp.’s nuclear Northeast division. Theobalds will be responsible for the company’s relationships with state and local government in New York, Massachusetts and Vermont. Prior to this appointment, he served as director of governmental affairs with Entergy. Theobalds was an assistant secretary to former New York Governor Mario M. Cuomo and a staff assistant to the late U.S. Rep. S. William Green, who represented Manhattan’s East Side district in Congress. | |
Reginald Hudlin
Reginald Hudlin joined BET as president of entertainment. Hudlin will divide his time between BET programming and production hubs in Los Angeles and New York, and company headquarters in Washington, D.C. He also becomes chief programming executive in charge of BET’s music, entertainment, specials, sports, news and public affairs, film and program acquisitions, home entertainment and programming development units. His producer and directorial credits include House Party, Boomerang, The Great White Hype, the first Black animated feature Bebe’s Kids, and The Ladies Man, among others.
Brentland Moore
Brentland Moore was named publisher of AOL BlackVoices, reporting to Michael Barrett, executive vice president, Global Sales, AOL Media Networks. Moore will lead the sales and sales development efforts for AOL BlackVoices. Moore previously served as publisher and vice president of sales for the Tribune Co., where he was responsible for overall operations and profitability of the Black Voices magazine/newspaper insert program and advertising sales for BlackVoices.com. He co-founded the publishing and sports marketing company Sports View Publications Inc.
Christina Norman
Christina Norman was appointed president of MTV: Music Television. Norman previously was president of VH1. In her new role, she will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership, strategy and management of MTV. She will oversee and direct business development, research, marketing and promotion, finance, communications and human resources and will partner with the respective general managers on the overall strategic direction of MTV2, mtvU, MTV Espanol, MTV Hits and MTV Jams. In addition, Norman will help manage MTV’s new media efforts with the digital media group, including MTV.com and MTV Overdrive, the new hybrid service available via broadband.
Obituary: John L. Procope
John L. Procope, a pioneering African-American entrepreneur who held executive positions in insurance, publishing and advertising, died of pneumonia. He was 82. Since 1982, Procope had served as chairman of the board of E. G. Bowman Co. Inc., a Wall Street insurance brokerage founded by his wife, Ernesta G. Procope. Previously, he was president and publisher of The New York Amsterdam News, the country’s largest weekly African-American-oriented newspaper. Procope also was a past president of the National Newspaper Publishers Association and a trustee of Howard University for 15 years. Over the past 25 years, he served as a trustee or board member of several nonprofit organizations, including New York University Graduate School of Business Advisory Board, YMCA of Greater New York and The New York State Crime Commission. He was a director of Shopwell Stores, a trustee of Apple Bank for Savings for 14 years and a former president of The Harlem Business Alliance.
