Your application of the “race card” to the subject of your editorial comment (“Our Social Safety Net,” May 2005) is factual, real and definitely “on point.” This is the most informative piece I have seen to date that addresses the “problem” with respect to its impact on the African-American community. Your March/April 2005 issue carried articles on leading Black designers and the Black presence in fashion. Where do I find Web sites for Black fashion designers for clothing and accessories such as jewelry, handbags and belts? I hope you will do articles in the future that will give information on Web sites of Black fashion vendors—on a state by— state basis—and of Black accessory designers, as well as books, catalogs and directories covering these

I guess if we do not tell our stories, nobody else will tell them for us. Thank God for TNJ. Your commentary on African hip-hop (“Editor's Note,” June 2005) is enlightening. So, too is your information about FESPACO, the film festival in Burkina Faso (“Africa Focus,” June 2005). Major media outlets hardly, if ever, say anything about this festival.
