Industries Without Color
Dear Editor:
As I read your magazine, in particular the article on “Industries Without Color” (March 2007), I had to pause and send this note about the inclusion in your list of Black-owned marketing firms. The RL Gant Group Inc. is a marketing firm that has been in business since 1998 and is definitely Black-owned. As president and CEO, I have long known about the struggles to get a share of the marketing pie, even though we are specialists in sports and entertainment marketing. Just as the general-market firms do every day, we, too, have our issues with developing opportunities for corporations to communicate their message through sports and entertainment, using a Black-owned firm. If the occasion arises, please add us to your list of firms owned and operated by an African-American.

25 Influential Women
Dear Editor:
I recently read the March (2007) issue of The Network Journal and really enjoyed the “25 Influential Black Women in Business” coverage. I was inspired upon seeing Brenda Freeman and Elaine Brown highlighted for their work in the cable industry. Hazel Dukes is a pistol and true advocate, thus I’m always elated to see her highlighted. I also enjoyed the piece on “Industries Without Color.” The inclusion of Rosalind Clay Carter was right on target. Rosalind is a true behind-the-scenes advocate for moving the diversity needle forward. I know this from personal experience, having worked with her at A&E for seven years. Lastly, I enjoyed the piece on Rudy Gaskins. I got to know him in my capacity of president of [the National Association of Multi-ethnicity in Communications—New York] a few years back and respect what he and Joan are trying to create with Push Creative. Keep up the good work!

Best Black Doctors

I found the cover story of your February (2007) issue very informative. I currently reside in Barbados, West Indies, but I once lived in Linden, Guyana, the town where Dr. Stephen Carryl lived. Hard to Find

I enjoy reading your articles. As a business owner, I find them highly insightful and informative. I recently started a subscription to The Network Journal after it became increasingly difficult to find it in New Jersey. I have tried numerous times to obtain a copy of the Dec. 06/Jan. 07 issue with no luck. I am trying to obtain this particular issue in order to read your Industry Focus column on the hospitality industry. Dear Editor:
I really enjoyed Ian Forrest’s article on Cornerstone Baptist Church (April 2007). I am very familiar with the church, having grown up in Brooklyn. The church is a landmark in the community. I know Lenny Singletary (president, Cornerstone Support Services Corp.) very well. He’s a very smart young man. He and I are childhood friends and it’s wonderful to see people you grew up with doing such positive things, not just for our community but for the next generation as well. Hopefully, this article will inspire other young men and women to do the same for those coming up behind us. We should all remember that leading by example is the key.
