Although she was the youngest of five children, Precious Murchison Gittens was an old soul at heart, relishing her family gatherings in Springfield, Mass. “Each gathering was filled with debate, laughter, stories and sometimes conflict. As the youngest person in the room, I carefully listened to and watched people. The lessons that I learned formed the foundation for my legal career,” explains Murchison Gittens, who is a shareholder (partner) at the international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, specializing in white-collar defense, investigations, and preparing executives for legal proceedings.
Murchison Gittens graduated, magna cum laude, from Howard University, majoring in legal communications, and received her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. She served on Howard’s award-winning Mock Trial team, and interned at the Justice Department. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, she worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, focusing on white-collar crimes. “At my core, I lead by service, so I enjoy providing legal services. I am passionate about developing and executing strategies to solve business challenges. Working at a firm with twenty-nine domestic offices and seven foreign locations enables me to leverage the right resources to provide real value to our clients,” she explains.
In her downtime, Murchison Gittens practices Bikram yoga and enjoys cooking and experiencing the arts with her family. “My guilty pleasure is a nice cigar and a small bourbon,” she says.
Asked about her long-term career plans, Murchison Gittens responds, “I don’t know where I’ll be professionally in the next ten years, but experience tells me that I should expect to be a better lawyer, a better businesswoman and a better steward. And I hope that I will have left something special all along the way.”
