Senior Manager, Business Development
Russell Tobin & Associates LLC
New York City
Age: 29

Nkrumah Pierre is the senior manager of business development at Russell Tobin & Associates, a minority-owned, boutique-style recruiting and staffing firm. He serves as the project lead and client liaison for searches ranging from consulting assignments with multinational investment banks to full-time, senior-level positions in academia and with nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining Russell Tobin, Pierre held business development positions in the same field at Solomon Page Group and the Execu|Search Group.

A career in the recruitment industry was never part of Pierre’s plan. Rather, he had a deep interest in finance and began his career as an analyst with M & T Bank. After he lost his position during the recession, he opted to reinvent himself. He was skeptical about a career in recruiting, but decided to take a chance. It was, after all, in keeping with his passion. “My passion is connecting like-minded individuals in order to spur development, growth and business opportunities,” he explains. He has never looked back since. Today, he is living his passion fully.  “In essence, my job is to be the business matchmaker between institutions looking to hire and the best talent possible.”

Pierre is an ardent believer in the “power of networking” and says much of his professional success can be attributed to connections he made from his participation in networking groups and professional associations.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in economics at Lafayette College and today he is president of the college’s New York City Alumni Chapter and chairman of McDonogh Network, a support group for Black alumni and current Black students of Lafayette. He is also actively involved in several other organizations, including Young Leaders Council, Sponsors for Educational Opportunity and Harlem Children’s Zone.

In his spare time, Pierre can be found training for half-marathons or carving up the mountains on a snowboard.
