In the wake of ongoing criticism of networks’ failure to hire African-American television anchors, Melissa Harris-Perry turned in a glowing performance last week when she filled in for the host of MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show. According to MSNBC president Phil Griffin, Perry - a professor of political science at Tulane University and an MSNBC contributor - handled the breaking news portion of the show “flawlessly”.
Griffin and Maddow say Perry has both the smarts and technical skills it takes to be successful as a television anchor.
