This time of the year, many people give to charity. In fact, according
to Giving USA 2013, individual giving amounted to $228.93 billion in
2012, an increase of 3.9 percent in current dollars from 2011. And much
of it is given during the holidays. But how can you make sure your charitable giving
will have an impact on the community? It depends on where you give.
At 12:00 noon on Wednesday, President Barack Obama announced his plans
for the administration to improve the decades-old, dysfunctional
relationship between the United States and Cuba. And the small business sector - namely Black business owners - couldn’t be more pleased.
Small business history will be made on December 13 at the “ARTsPLOTION:
Holiday Tree Lighting” in the East New York community of Brooklyn, N.Y.
The tree lighting ceremony began six years ago, but this year’s will
also serve as the soft opening of the re New Lots Market and Artist
Incubator, an initiative championed by local economic developers and
community revitalization advocates.
