The new cohort of WE NYC mentors is made up of 30 successful
businesswomen from a variety of industries that reflect the diversity of
New York City. Vanessa Best, president and CEO of Precision Healthcare
Consultants and a 2010 Network Journal "25 Influential Black Women in Business" honoree, is one of them.
Although minority- and women-owned business enterprises (MWBEs)
continue to receive just a small fraction of New York City’s procurement
dollars, one company aims to
turn that bleak reality around through the creation of MWBE Connect NY,
a new app designed to help MWBEs track and manage
opportunities right from their phones. It's one-stop shopping for MWBEs, if you will.
Ten small businesses could be the recipients of grants and services
equaling a collective prize pool of $120,500 compliments of FedEx
Corp.’s Small Business Grant Contest. It is the largest sum since the
contest’s inception five years ago.
Today, the Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressman
Cedric Richmond (D-LA-02), sent a letter to President Trump urging him
to show that he is serious about helping historically black colleges and
universities by including substantial funding for Pell Grants, Title
III of the Higher Education Act and other policies and programs that
help these institutions in his budget to Congress.
