Record producer turned entrepreneur Andre Romelle Young, aka Dr. Dre, has teamed up with AT&T to launch Beats Music, a music streaming subscription service. The joint venture is an extension of Dre’s 2008 release of his popular brand of headphones, Beats by Dr. Dre.
With a price tag of up to $450 a piece, the line of headphones, has turned into a billion dollar business.
Beginning January 21, customers can get the service for $14.99 a month, exclusively through AT&T. For a limited time, the first 90 days of the service is free, according to AT&T.
The business venture is not a first for Dre. Since 2001, he has had several high-paying endorsements from companies including Coors Light and Chrylser 300S. In 2012, Forbes reported that Dre. earned $270 million.
“Beats Music is different from existing services in that it provides a truly personalized experience,” said AT&T spokesman Lance Skelly, adding “real music experts and DJs select your content to help you discover new music that matches your own taste and interests.”
