American International Group Inc.
New York, N.Y.
Neal Johnson is a Yale University graduate who has cultivated a career serving as a senior business analyst and project manager for American International Group Inc. (AIG), a global insurance company employing more than 64,000 in 90 countries. Johnson is a member of the Object Management Group and is certified as an expert in business process modeling notation. A first generation American, born in Queens, New York, Johnson is the child of Jamaican immigrants who encouraged his childhood curiosity that developed into a strong desire to learn. On a journey of continuous self-improvement, he is guided by the words of American educator Stephen R. Covey: “I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.”
As a member of the International Institute of Business Analysts — New York City Chapter, Johnson says he is able to share knowledge and ideas with like-minded members of the profession. Similarly, as a member of Modern Analyst, a resource organization for business analysts, he shares his experiences and resources with other minorities in the industry. Recently, he was named a vice president of the leadership team of the Black Professional Executive Roundtable Group at AIG, a role in which he strives to identify opportunities to bridge the diversity gap within AIG. “It is my hope that strengthening these connections will help to foster the principles of inclusion as well as facilitate collaboration with other professionals within AIG,” he says.
Outside of his professional work and affiliations, Johnson served on the board of his residential co-op, organizes community activities and serves as an alumni interviewer for Bronx Borough students applying to Yale. A family man, he participates in the admissions process at his daughter’s private school in order to forward the positive momentum the school has taken toward diversity and help prospective minority families feel welcome.
