It was 1968 when South African photographer Ernest Cole arrived in Detroit without notice or fanfare. Now, his photographs are available both at the Grey Art
Gallery at New York University where they will be on display until
December 6 and in a hefty catalogue, including many of the photos from
House of Bondage.
Over the last several months, we have lost such iconic figures from the
literary canon as Maya Angelou, Walter Dean Myers, Amiri Baraka, and
Ruby Dee, to mention but a few. Thankfully, there are still a number of
them currently active and one of them, Dr. Haki Madhubuti, was nearby
recently for a lecture at Adelphi University in Garden City.
