Inosi M. Nyatta’s commitment to helping bring about a more equitable global community speaks to her personal experiences as someone born and raised in Kenya, who subsequently embarked on a law career in Britain and the United States. “I saw the law as offering a wide range of opportunities to play a role in addressing the inequalities and imbalances faced by many,” says Nyatta.
Nyatta is a partner at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, practicing in the Project Development and Corporate & Finance Groups. She advises clients on a range of financing transactions, including project financings and capital markets offerings. Nyatta has an abiding interest in transactional work and in creating commercial solutions to support economic development. During her years in legal practice, she has worked extensively on corporate and commercial transactions in emerging markets, notably Africa, Latin America and Asia.
A member of Sullivan & Cromwell’s Diversity Committee, Nyatta was the pro bono coordinator in the firm’s London office. She was assigned to the firm’s London office from 2006 through 2010 and relocated to New York in 2011. Nyatta received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nairobi, Kenya, and a Master of Law degree from New York University School of Law, following which she was awarded a Rhodes scholarship that took her to the University of Oxford, England, where she earned a Bachelor of Civil Law degree.
If she had the opportunity, Nyatta says, she would establish a school for disadvantaged children with a curriculum aimed at developing innovators and leaders of the future. “I would advise future lawyers to strive to be the best at what they do and retain intellectual curiosity throughout their careers,” she says. When she isn’t hard at work at Sullivan & Cromwell, Nyatta enjoys baking with her young son, going to the theater
