Alex M. David directs the Office of Re-search and Diversity at
the New York City Bar Asso-ciation, providing guidance on diversity
issues to the law firms and law departments of major corporations
that make up the association’s members. While advising the
association’s Minorities in the Profession Committee, he
was instrumental in the development of the “Best Practices
Guide.”
David is a staunch advocate for diversity issues and developments.
His enthusiasm for affecting change as it pertains to diversity
has made him popular on the speaking circuit, including guest
appearances on national news programs advocating for black businesses.
David participates in many discussions for major organizations,
including the Congressional Black Caucus and the National Bar
Association.
David credits his mother, Doretha David, with fueling his thirst
for education, noting that she has always been a “tireless
seeker of knowledge.” He also acknowledges the support of
his brothers, Daniel and Timothy, from whose intellect and business
savvy he drew heavily to become the success he is today. “You
can’t achieve success without a solid foundation of support,”
he says.
Proving that he inherited his mother’s insatiable quest
for knowledge, he pursued dual doctoral degrees, in economics
and marketing, at Pace University and completed those studies
in May. He graduated cum laude from Pace with a master’s
in economics. David serves on the board of the National Black
Chamber of Commerce, Securities Industry Association’s Diversity
Committee and New York City National Pan Hellenic Council. He
is a member of the Merrill Lynch Advisory Council in Trenton,
N.J., and the Trenton Economic Advisory Council.
Professional accomplishments aside, David remains committed
to helping others. He has a special interest in mentoring young
Black men and mentors students at Erasmus High School in Brooklyn,
N.Y.
