The 2012 History Makers Gala (September 27, 2012) and Iowa African American Women’s Leadership Conference, “I Am My Sister’s Keeper” (September 28), honors the accomplishments of Iowa’s African American women while providing over 400 professional and aspiring professional women with networking, personal and professional opportunities, and inspiration. Celebrate the proud tradition and contributions of African American women, explore what that legacy means to the past, present and the future and learn how to make a difference in your community! The event's keynote speakers are: Lisa Nichols: A best-selling author, popular public speaker, and powerful coach, Lisa transformed her life from struggling single mom to motivational millionaire entrepreneur. Hearing her speech, “Celebrating the SHERO in You” should not be missed! Valorie Burton: A certified Personal and Executive Coach who has served hundreds of clients in over 40 states and 8 countries, Valorie is the founder of The Coaching and Positive Psychology (CAPP) Institute – a training and leadership development company. Shirley Sherrod: Shirley, the first black Director of Rural Development in Georgia, was put in the media spotlight by deceptive video-clip splicing. She has written a book, The Courage to Hope: How I Stood Up to the Politics of Fear.

Corporate Tables, Tickets and Registration Corporate tables of ten are available for $1,000; individual registrations are $125 – both include tickets to the September 27 pre-conference History Maker’s Gala. Generous scholarship donations from corporations and individuals help underwrite costs for women who might not otherwise be able to attend these functions. Sponsorship opportunities remain available.
