LMI (Logistics Management Institute)

McLean, Va.

Age: 34

Charles Thomas Jr., Ed.D., is a senior project leader at LMI, a not-for-profit government consulting organization founded in 1961 as the Logistics Management Institute. He advises federal government clients on practical, original and sustainable strategies for fulfilling the mission of their respective organizations.

Born in Flint, Michigan, Thomas received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, an MBA from the University of Texas-San Antonio, a master’s and doctorate from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and holds a host of academic and professional certifications. Parlaying his role as adviser, the dedicated educator and philanthropist serves as an adjunct professor of organizational behavior and a life-skills instructor for men who are presently incarcerated and preparing for re-entry into society. He is the president of the board for OAR Fairfax, a nonprofit restorative justice organization that provides human services to the Northern Virginia region; treasurer of the board for Leadership Fairfax, another nonprofit, which is dedicated to leadership development and engagement; a member of the Future Fund’s leadership committee; and a volunteer Wish Granter and Wish Ambassador for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Thomas plans to continue engaging those in need of learning on how to become and remain a functioning, productive member of society. His parents have been instrumental in his own growth, development and inspiration, he says, steadfastly giving him encouragement and being model examples throughout his life. Thomas also is keen to continue pursuing his offender rehabilitation teaching experiences. Those experiences help him to grow personally and professionally while adding value to the lives of others less fortunate in today’s society, he says. “I want to wake up every morning with a resolute will and spirit of determination to end the day a little better and a little smarter than when I started the day,” he reflects.
