Earlier this month, Melissa A. Anyetei, Intellectual Property partner at
the law firm Mayer Brown, received the “Leadership Excellence in Law
Award” at the Illinois Diversity Council’s second annual conference.
Chef Joseph "JJ" Johnson has been on the rise since helping to open The Cecil in
2013 as its first Chef de Cuisine. Shortly after, in fall 2014, he
joined Minton's, Harlem's historic jazz supper club and sister
restaurant to The Cecil. Recently, Johnson was named executive chef of both.
In a recent book endorsement for Ta-Nehisi Coates’ “Between the World
and Me,” author Toni Morrison
wrote, "I've been wondering who might fill the intellectual void that
plagued me after James Baldwin died. Clearly, it is Ta-Nehisi Coates." But Morrison isn’t the only one who thinks highly of Coates. This
week, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced that
Coates is among its list of “geniuses” to be named a MacArthur Fellow.
Through her company Walk Tall Productions, arts management professional Marcia Pendelton for the past 15
years has brought numerous critically acclaimed productions to NYC
stages. And during those 15 years, she has worked with some of the
biggest names in the Broadway and Off-Broadway arenas. Here, we caught up with Pendelton whose career will be celebrated
tonight at Harlem Hospital Center in NYC.
