Partner, K&L Gates LLP
New York, N.Y.
As a corporate partner in the New York office of K&L Gates, Calvina Bostick focuses on complex mergers and acquisitions, private equity deals and general business matters. “A large part of the fun for me is thinking of new ways to solve problems, pushing a complex deal to fruition, and knowing that my client is in a better position as a result,” Bostick explains.
Bostick graduated cum laude from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in finance and earned a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. She began her career at K&L Gates as a summer associate in 2005 and made partner in 2015, becoming the first African-American female partner in the New York office. She is rightfully proud of this accomplishment and says, “It’s great to be promoted to partnership by a dynamic firm that recognizes my value. As a partner, I look forward to building my practice and leading a path for others like me to follow.”
Bostick serves as pro bono counsel to community, human services and educational nonprofit organizations, and volunteers with the New York School Board Mentoring Program and the SEO Career Scholars Program. She is also involved in several organizations, including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and Corporate Counsel Women of Color. In 2013, Lawyers of Color ranked her among the top 100 minority attorneys in the Eastern Region of the United States. Bostick asserts that her career achievements are owed in large part to the professional nurturing and guidance of her mentors, but most of all to her mother, who showed her by example the effects of hard work and sacrifice.
Traveling is one of Bostick’s passions and, despite her hectic schedule, she makes time to visit different parts of the world, meet new people and, in the process, learn more about humanity and herself.
