The Waters Group presents Oggi Ogburn's "Big Luke's 14th Street" an exhibit of Oggi's 40-yr career of "employment of enjoyment" in phtography from Feb 1 to Feb 28. This retropesctive to commemorate Black History Month will include iconic individuals such as Rosa Parks, Chancellor Williams, Dorothy Height, Stevie Wonder & Coretta Scott King at the signing of the MLK Holiday legislation and others. Please join Oggi for a special artist reception on Tues, Feb 8 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The DC Lottery supports this event as a community partner.

The Most Studied Group of Women

While discussing The Washington Post-Kaiser Family Foundation survey of Black women (See Headliner, Page 8) with a friend of mine, she repeated a comment on the subject from a friend of hers: “We’re the most studied group of women.” That gave me pause. When our conversation ended, I reflected on portrayals of Black women, individually or as a group, in the last year.
