
The
owners of Flowerworks (800) ROSE-411,
a flower and landscape business which got new capital valued at $1.2
million from Wall Street’s Capital Strategies Inc. (212) 323-8100, celebrated
the acquisition of their future headquarters in Brooklyn’s Bedford Stuyvesant
on Feb. 7th. Front row, #4 and #6 are: Marcia Melendez and Angel Melendez,
the owners of Flowerworks.
Susan
L. Taylor is now the publications
director of the multi-media firm Essence Communications Inc. (ECI),
the parent company of Essence magazine for which she was editor-in-chief
and senior vice president. In her new position, Taylor is responsible
for all editorial operations of the publication as well as the managerial
and communications liaison between all of the magazine’s departments,
and all ECI divisions.
Andrea
Belnavis, president and founder of
Miss Black World NY Organization Inc. (MBWNYO), honored exceptionally
talented women from Africa, the Caribbean, and the America’s as part
of her annual Pageant Week. Seated down is Miss Black World Barbados,

Bennie
Gerald McMorris Jr. has been appointed
the new dean of students at Hampton University. As leader of the office
of student affairs, McMorris Jr. oversees all policies, programs and
departments that include residence life, student health services, student
activities, career planning and placement, academic support service
and testing, and counseling at the 6,000-students population campus.
Before he joined Hampton, McMorris Jr. was director of Higher Education
Opportunity Program at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.
The
Women’s Venture Fund (WVF), a non-profit
multi-service organization that provides information, mentoring and
microloans to entrepreneurs in under served communities, honored Cheryl
D. George, founder and president of Exousia Business Services (718)
670-3390, an office organization and support services company started
in 1994. Pictured here after winning the Significant Women Award, left
