Dr. Gail F. Baker has been named vice president of public relations at the University of Florida. Her experience includes positions with IBM and International Harvester (now Navistar). She was reporter and managing editor for the Chicago Daily Defender. Baker is the author of Advertising and Marketing to the New Majority, and co-author of Exploding Stereotypes: Milestones in Black Newspaper Research. She has written articles and book chapters on cross-cultural communications, ethnic public relations, advertising and marketing. She has conducted training and workshops in crisis communications management and ethnic marketing. Baker holds a doctorate in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a masters degree in marketing communications from Roosevelt University, and a B.S. in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She has won awards for excellence in teaching and scholarship. The newly appointed managing director of the New York office of Pendleton James Associates Inc.,
A. David Brown is also head of the firm’s recently launched Diversity Practice. Brown, a veteran human resources recruiter, heads an experienced multi-ethnic team. He joined the N.Y. office after serving as vice president of the Worldwide Retail/Fashion Specialty Practice at Korn/Ferry International.
George Lumsby has been named co-managing director and national practice leader, diversity, in the New York office of the executive search firm, StratfordGroup. Before joining StratfordGroup, Lumsby worked with Boyden in the fields of finance, marketing, engineering, human resources, and manufacturing. Lumsby worked as director of human resource systems at Phillip Morris, where he was responsible for executive recruiting and man-power development. He also worked as director of affirmative action responsible for the development and implementation of affirmative action policy. He has worked at IBM, Richard Clarke Associates, and Merrill Lynch, and was once owner of his own executive search firm which catered for Fortune 500 companies, and universities.
