Curious Omission

Dear Editor,
Your article, “New York’s Black Law Partners” (December 2005/January 2006), contains a curious omission. The write-ups on four of the five attorneys mention the schools they attended—Princeton, Columbia Law, Morehouse, Barnard, Stanford Law and Harvard—all among our top schools. However, the profile of the fifth attorney, Errol Taylor, is silent on his educational background. He is a graduate of the State University of New York and New York Law School, both perfectly good schools, though they may lack the prestige (dare I use the term “glitz”?) of the other schools. Moreover, the gentleman was born in Jamaica, West Indies. So, we have a foreign-born Black lawyer who did not come up through the Ivy League schools and who became a partner in a top New York law firm. This is impressive.

Obviously, nothing set forth above is intended to trivialize the significant accomplishments of the other four attorneys. I extend my slightly belated good wishes to Mr. Taylor on his big Five-O and suggest that he check the USPTO’s online listing of registered patent attorneys, which contains a typo in his firm’s name and also gives an incorrect ZIP code for his office address.
