Anita Ogbara
Director, Corporate Ratings
Standard & Poor’s, McGraw Hill Financial
New York City
Age: 38

Anita Ogbara adheres to the belief that “you should always give a 100-percent effort to whatever task you undertake because with each task there is an opportunity to gain another supporter or advocate.” This philosophy has served her well. At 38, she is a director of Corporate Ratings at Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services, covering the transportation sector, including large railroads, trucking, airfreight, and logistics companies. As the sector specialist, she leads credit analysis, publishes research reports and investor materials, and communicates the company’s rating decisions and their implications to issuers and investors globally. She has given presentations at numerous industry conferences, including Standard & Poor’s Transportation Conference, the Rail Equipment Finance Conference, and the Association of American Railroads Treasurer’s Conference.

Her position at S&P is a natural fit for Ogbara, whose affinity for numbers led her to earn a bachelor’s degree in finance from Penn State University and an MBA in finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. “I get to do analytical work as it relates to real things and companies,” says the New York native, wife and mother of an infant daughter. Before joining Standard & Poor’s, she was an investment banker at Bear Stearns & Co., specializing in mergers and acquisitions and debt-and equity capital markets for large and mid-cap industrial companies.

Ogbara also holds a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. The daughter of Nigerian immigrants who place great emphasis on education and hard work, Ogbara is motivated by a desire “to have a body of work to look back on and really be proud of.” She advises others to “be less concerned with what others are doing and cultivate your own talents, develop your strengths and hone your skills; there is power in focus.”
