President / Chief Technology Officer, BCT Partners L.L.C. Newark, N.J., Age: 37

Lawrence M. Hibbert is a founder, president and chief technology officer of BCT Partners L.L.C., a strategic management and technology consulting firm that he and his partners — Randal Pinkett, Dallas A. Grundy and Jeffrey Robinson — grew from a home-based business to a multimillion dollar company serving corporations, government agencies and nonprofit organizations. BCT Partners was born from MBS Educational Services and Training, which was on the verge of closing after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S., when the partners decided to reinvent the company instead.

Though a difficult decision, Hibbert left the comfort of full-time employment as network services manager at Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. to head BCT Partners. The collective effort of his talented team is the key to firm’s success, he insists with pride. “I am because we are,” he says, quoting an African proverb that sums up his approach to success. “Success in our community is based in our ability to galvanize around a particular cause that is greater than our individual desires,” he explains.

Hibbert is passionate about inspiring the young people of his community, just as he is inspired and supported by his parents, George and Melida Hibbert, and his wife, Patrell Hibbert. He is Web communications chair for Rutgers African-American Alumni Alliance (RAAA) Inc.; deacon and technology adviser for First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset, N.J.; and an organizer and facilitator for the New Jersey Youth Entrepreneurial and Career Summit.
