Kaplan Mobray was a diversity advocate long before the subject became a business buzz word. As president of the Black Student League at the University of Pennsylvania, Mobray focused on campus race relations and the impact of school policies on students of color. Today, as the U.S. recruitment marketing and diversity recruiting leader at Deloitte & Touche U.S.A. L.L.P., he serves as a strategic adviser on diversity, inclusion, recruiting and branding issues and oversees development of the firm’s recruiting and human resources marketing strategy and programs. “I’ve always seen myself as a change agent,” says Mobray. Creating the Future Leaders Apprentice Program, which provides a $5,000 scholarship, mentorship and leadership development to young people, is one of his biggest accomplishments at Deloitte. “Every day is an opportunity to break down barriers. I definitely feel like an ambassador’s for change,” he says.

Mobray has a B.A. in sociology and concentration in Marketing from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, where he also won the Spoon Award, the school’s highest honor. He attributes his success to his parents, George and Boblin Mobray, who moved their five children from Bermuda to Providence, R.I., when Mobray was 7. “I see every life experience as an opportunity to make a difference in the world and carry this as a responsibility to honor my parents for their sacrifice and belief in my ability to succeed,” he says. His wife, Astrid, has been equally supportive of his personal and professional endeavors.

The first in his family to attend college, Mobray is a positive example for his four siblings. A self-described Renaissance man, he is a motivational speaker, author and professional saxophonist.

Mobray is a mentor to many students and professionals and gives the following advice: “Look at your life and manage your life as a brand. Package your experiences so that you are truly living by decision, not by default.”
