  • Deon Levingston

38 Vice President-General Manager - ICBC Broadcast Holdings Inc., New York City

Deon Levingston says the most important things in his life are not, in fact, things, but people. His wife, Angela, keeps him focused. His 10-year-old son, Sampson, and six-year-old daughter, Ashley, keep him fighting. Levingston’s black belt in tae kwon do is a physical thing, but coaching his children in the Junior Olympic National Tae Kwon Do Sparring Championships was the experience of a lifetime. His daughter came in second and his son finished third. This is one of the proudest moments of his life.

Levingston’s career, luminous though it may be, is a distant second. That is ironic, however, considering how successful he is. As the vice president and general manager of ICBC Broadcast Holdings, he directs the daily operation of nationally renowned New York radio stations 107.5 WBLS-FM and WLIB-AM.

Prior to joining WBLS, Levingston was vice president and general manager at Radio One stations in Indianapolis. With more than 16 years in advertising and broadcast, which includes 14 years in radio and two years in television, Levingston got his start as an account executive at WZPL, another Indianapolis radio station. He was a success right out of the gate, generating more than a half-million dollars in new direct business. “Minimum effort equals minimum results…never give less than your best,” he says, quoting his favorite saying. It suits him. He gives his best not only to his family and at work, but also to the community. He is active with the Little Red Door Cancer Agency, sits on the board of directors of Circle City Classic and is a member of Eastern Star Church. He’s also a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and the American Cancer Society.

A graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he earned a B.A. in legal communications, Levingston was a fixture on the National Dean’s List and a Scholastic Academic All-American. To this day, he remains a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity. Next on his agenda? “I want to get my pilot’s license.”
