    Esq. Senior Chief Litigation Counsel
    MetLife Inc., New York City

A child of the Civil Rights Movement, Teresa Wynn Roseborough first considered a career in law at an early age, but settled on it while an undergraduate at the University of Virginia.

“Wanting to be a part of such a powerful tool for changing society is part of what attracted me to the practice of law,” she states.

Roseborough is the senior chief litigation counsel at MetLife Inc., heading a department of more than 60 associates and supervising the company’s litigation activities worldwide.

Prior to joining MetLife in April 2006, Roseborough was a partner at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan L.L.P. in Atlanta, specializing in constitutional law, class actions, telecommunications law and government regulation at both the trial and appellate levels.
She was one of the principal attorneys for Vice President Al Gore in the 2000 election recount litigation. Before Sutherland Asbill, she was deputy assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Counsel of the United States Department of Justice.

Roseborough says her family kept her motivated amid the challenges of being a lawyer on the rise. “My husband, Joseph, keeps me focused on the things that matter most in life; my daughter Courtney keeps me inspired and young; and my mother, Ethel Wynn, keeps me serene and balanced,” she says.

An Iowa native who was raised in Tennessee, Roseborough holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree in education from Boston University and a law degree from the University of North Carolina’s School of Law, where she was the first African-American woman to serve as editor-in-chief of the Law Review.
