    Shauna Johnson Clark
    Partner-In-Charge
    Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P
    Houston, Texas

Shauna Johnson Clark joined Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P soon after graduating cum laude from Tulane Law School in 1994. By 2003, less than 10 years later, she had become the firm’s first African-American female partner. As partner-in-charge, Clark implements strategic initiatives for the office while representing management in all aspects of employment law matters, including jury and nonjury trials, mediation and arbitration. She also conducts training, prepares policies and procedures, and advises clients on employee retention.

“All work is valuable if well done,” Clark recalls her late mother, Julia Lee Johnson, telling her often. It’s a lesson that helped to make her successful at her part-time custodial job in college, as well as at Fulbright & Jaworski. In both places, she focused on providing excellent work, ensuring that she was “asked for by name” for future services.

Mentors were also critical to Clark’s success. “A really good mentor does not have to look like you or share your personal interests,” she remarks. “I think we limit our ability to succeed in numerous industries because we seek mentors that look like us, have our interests and share our beliefs.”

Clark earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Louisiana State University and is board certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She serves on the board of Texas Executive Women, a nonprofit organization that mentors young women, and supports The Bridge Over Troubled Waters shelter for women and children of domestic abuse.

A wife and mother of four children, ranging in age from 13 years to 8 months, Clark treasures the few hours a week she is able to relax. During these times, you can find her journaling or reading a good book.
