Raised by three generations of women, Teresa Taylor Williams learned lessons of greatness from an early age. She has been an entrepreneur since the age of 22, a career she approaches without fear. “I have learned unshakable faith from all of these women and it may be the most important quality that I have embraced,” says Williams. Armed with this faith and confidence, she obtained a master’s degree in psychology from the City University of New York, Queens College; a master’s degree in management from Columbia University; and a doctorate in administration from Columbia University — all before the age of 30. She also holds a master’s in clinical counseling from Long Island University and is a member of the American Counselor’s Association and the Independent Press.

 In 1989, Williams combined her passions for education and psychology with her business savvy and launched The New York Trend, the largest Black-owned newspaper in Long Island. The Trend is a politically and socially influential publication that covers health, politics, current events and other topics affecting ethnic neighborhoods in New York City and Nassau and Suffolk counties of Long Island. In addition to launching the newspaper and serving as its publisher and CEO, Williams is the founder TTW Associates Counseling Services and serves as its supervising counselor of mental health services.

Williams takes pride in being a role model for her three children and in following in the footsteps of the role models of her extended family by being a mentor to young women who are pursing careers in journalism. For the past 20 years, she has provided internship opportunities in reporting, editing, photography and marketing at The Trend. “I believe your success is measured by the efforts you made to reach out, grab a hand and give someone else a chance to achieve,” Williams says.
