Lawnside, N.J., native Ronald Heigler Jr. took over his father’s electrical contracting business and added electrical design engineering to its services upon graduating from Temple University with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. However, wanting more experience and interaction with seasoned architects, he joined Burt Hill, an architectural and engineering firm and attained a professional engineering license during his tenure there. He later became licensed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and North Carolina. Eight years ago, he and partners Michael Kokayko and Daniel Pfeiffer opened BHG Consulting Inc., a mechanical, electrical and plumbing consulting engineering firm serving architects, facility managers and real estate developers. “Helping to grow our firm from virtually nothing to where we are today has made me proud,” says Heigler, the firm’s managing principal.

An anonymous quote, one of his favorite, sums up Heigler’s approach to life: “Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Choose your words, for they become actions. Understand your actions, for they become habits. Study your habits, for they will become your character. Develop your character, for it becomes your destiny.” He explains, “I have found this to be true in my life. One thing always leads to another. As we grow, the words we chose and actions we take are all part of our experience and it shapes your future.”

Heigler relishes spending time with his family and engaging in activities that he is passionate about: scuba diving (he’s certified), composing music and filmmaking. He has already written, produced and directed one feature-length film. Heigler is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, the Urban League of Young Professionals and the National Society of Black Engineers.
